November Recap

 What a year we have had!  For many, we began the year in Orange and now we are ending the year at full pre-pandemic throttle.  We have much to celebrate and are grateful for the support and collegiality we have shared as we have made a difference in the lives of our young people and their whānau.  

At this busy time of year, we would like to remind you that our team is here to help. Most of our facilitators will be taking annual leave from the week beginning December 19th. Until then, we are keen to support your staff, whether in groups, individually, or at the whole staff level.  We often support teachers to plan for their new class site for the year ahead - and even get hands-on with the design. We are out and about supporting the sign-ups to the Summer Learning Journey and supporting the managing of class blogs and individual blogs. We are working on the in-class facilitation timetables for 2023, and as soon as principals give us the names of teachers to support we will be able to finalise these.

Many of our network-wide PLD programmes are filling up, so thank you for getting in ahead and booking spaces to work with us in the Digital Fluency Intensives, Reading Practice Intensives, and Te Reo Māori Facilitation.

We have a number of principals retiring or moving on to new schools at the end of this term and extend our best wishes to you all. This may not be the complete list, but to Kathy Hancock from Kaingaroa School, Gary Roberts from Hornby Primary, Paddy Sannazzaro from Levin School,  Mary Kleinsman-Powell from St Mary's Foxton, and Tiwana Hibbs from Foxton Primary - thank you for your contribution to our large community of learning. You will be missed.

Class OnAir As the Class OnAir teachers for 2022 wrap up their final episodes, we thank them for their courage and expertise - sharing their practice to enrich our network in 140+ episodes	50 Thousand Posts Take a look at the exciting Edublog activity across the Network this year. Research Thanks so much for all your hard work getting your achievement data into the Research Team! Results will be live on EdPotential imminently. Dates for 2023 are on the calendar. To check you have the calendar, go to this link and ADD	Facilitator Farewell to Jeremy Ferguson Te Purapura Ngātahi Jeremy has been a facilitator in our online cluster. He brought solid technical expertise and developed great working relationships with staff. We wish him well as he moves on to his next role.	Immersion Māori Facilitation We are facilitating a short PLD for the MOE in Waikato this week to assist kura and kaiako with aspects of teaching and learning in the digital space. These hui will be facilitated in Te Reo Māori	Our final cohort of DFI for 2022 wraps up next week with our external recognition day. Thanks to those who have participated in the DFI in 2022, it’s been awesome to learn, create and share with all 238 of you! Term 1 2023 is FULL.

A decision the Manaiakalani management team has made going forward is to retire the word Outreach and simply use the word Network. We believe it better reflects the nature of our partnership. You will see this in our documentation as we make the tweaks.

October Recap

 The October newsletter has a different format as we have recently been together and celebrated so much of the mahi that is going on in schools and work streams across the network face-to-face. Thank you to the 200 people who attended and contributed your expertise and insights throughout the evening event on Thursday and the day of the wānanga on Friday.  To those who came down with illnesses - we missed you!

	Opportunities 2023 We are in the closing week of applications for opportunities 2023. Thank you for passing these on. We have some roles in the Manaiakalani facilitation team opening up now that are advertised in the Gazette and on our website.
	Device orders for 2023 It’s that time of year again, when you need to consult your current roll and make a very educated “projection” about how many new Chromebooks and iPads you will need to start February 2023 This Form is designed to bring together initial indications from across the Manaiakalani Network of schools. Your Procurement Team needs to know approximately how many we are negotiating for!  AND to get stock into the country.  iPads  We are recommending the iPad 9 as the best learner iPad. The price of this is to increase $100 in the next shipment. Get in quick if you want some at the current price. Contact Stan +64 22 061 2432 Stan.F@pbtech.co.nz Chromebooks  The current indication from schools for next year is for over 2300 Chromebooks.  Make sure we have enough for you by filling in this form. Even if you need zero it helps us to know. There are 50 schools yet to respond.

	Cook Islands Teacher Summit 2022 This inaugural event was rated a success on every measure. As a genuine partnership event between the Cook Islands educators and the kiwis who travelled over, all participants rated it highly. The speakers and session presenters were world-class, the immersive cultural opportunities designed for us were confronting and enlightening, and the collaboration between attendees was something most had never experienced. Thank you for supporting this by sending teachers or coming yourself. Hint: Oct 2,3- 2023

September Recap

 As another busy term and month draws to a close we have included a few elements of our programme activity and cluster events in the thumbnails below.

We are highlighting the Manaiakalani Opportunities for 2023 as these will need to be brought to teachers’ attention at the end of this week to be considered during the holidays.  Our successful applicants generally have spent time considering their proposals during the break and get final approval from their principal on return to school early term 4.  The final few spaces for the annual Wānanga are likely to fill in the next week, so check if you have secured your slot.

This one document contains relevant links.	The Wānanga is rapidly filling up, with 175 registrations as of this week. Check if your registration has been received using this handy Data Studio page	MET is engaging with the Ministry in this new work and contacted principals earlier in the week about the opportunity to contribute.
Uru Mānuka Student Summit	Immersion Māori Research	Reading Practice Intensive	DFI 2023
Workshops organised and presented by students for students across the Uru Mānuka cluster. Read what students said in their feedback about this exceptionally powerful experience.	Our research team had a successful feedback session this term with kura that participated in the Pānui Observations. This is a developing and exciting kaupapa within the immersion and bilingual kura. It’s Film Festival Season in some of our clusters! Two festivals have been held in Term 3 and two clusters are wrapping up creating movies ready for a Term 4 event. We collectively have years of experience to support other regions that may want to consider this for 2023.
Te Hiku	Kaikohekohe	Ako Hiko	Manaiakalani
Kaitaia’s Te Ahu Centre was the venue for screening the movies from the schools in Te Hiku on September 14th.  The local paper featured the schools in a double page spread. The films can be seen online.	Our screening took place at the Cathay Cinemas Kerikeri on the 21st of September.   Narelle Yakas from Bay of Islands College, was inspired and told her students, ‘This is where all your learn, create, share mahi can end up’ Film Festival Site	Screening at Events Cinema, St Lukes on Wednesday 19th October. All films will be posted on blogs on Thursday 20th and can also be found on our  Film Festival Site.	Approx 100 movies have gone into post-production to prepare for the 15th Manaiakalani Film Festival on November 8th at Hoyts Sylvia Park. This 12 hr event will see 3,000+ people come through the doors.

August Recap

We are all pleased to be farewelling the Winter months and looking forward to Spring.

Kootuitui ki Papakura is delighted to welcome a new facilitator, Aina Masina, to the team. Aina has been DP of a large primary school and has recent secondary teaching experience. Aina will be working alongside the Health and the Homes strands in the Kootuitui ki Papakura cluster and will be supporting the six kura.	Uru Mānuka’s dedication to improving reading within the cluster this year has seen the Literacy Leaders released to work with the Leaders of Learning each term to drive this important mahi. This term’s focus is a cluster-wide book week and a launch within our schools of our ‘Uru Mānuka Loves Reading’ site.	The Tairāwhiti cluster welcomes 5 new Principals: Kahu Walker Awapuni School Brendon Fiebig Makauri School Andy Hayward Gisborne Intermediate Tom Cairns Gisborne Boys’ High School Stu Barclay Gisborne Central School (starts term 3)	The amazing  Anne Sinclair is back! Our talented mentor, coach, and professional supervisor has been through a long health journey and we are delighted to have her back on board. Anne has modelled determination, resilience, and the power of incredible positivity this past year and we are delighted she is back.
