Aviary added to Google Apps for Education

With a huge focus on creativity in our Manaiakalani projects it has been a concern to some of us that through Google Apps for Ed we are in danger of moving more and more into 'productivity' apps with our students and spending less time on the creative apps.

The announcement that Aviary has been added to the available apps inside Google Apps for Ed is VERY welcome.
Image Editor, Effects Editor etc for graphics is a great start, but even better news for the Manaiakalani schools is the Audio editor.
As Jim Sill says:, "Aviary allows you to create graphics, audio files (Podcasts, VoiceOvers) and more. Now, you can save the files you create and they will be stored directly in your Google Docs account. It also gives you embed codes so you can put the pictures or the mp3 player on your site. This really opens the door for classrooms to produce content and share it with ease."
Can't wait to see our creative students and teachers using it.....

  2. I have had a bit of play with Aviary's Myna- so Garageband like it scary but slow to load and use- hopefully Google will give it a shot in the arm and it will be even better. Thanks for the heads up.

  3. @Barbs @Allanah We have been playing with Aviary but , as my Main Man reminds me, we are spoilt by fast broadband so we have had no problems with it. Interested to hear your feedback and checked with family on slower connections and they said the same as you. Not so good on slower internet, especially waiting for audio to render.
Bring on the Fiber roll out I say :)

  4. Wow! This is really great stuff. I think this is very important for people who don't have a computer with them. They are still able to work on their projects as long as they still have a internet connection. It also helps that you don't have to keep buying additional software. I'm really looking forward to this.

It seems extremely beneficial, and I have enjoyed reading your thoughts about the app. I am looking forward to viewing more of your blog, and I hope to learn a lot from you.

    Thank You,

  9. Like you, I hope to see even more creative apps from Google, especially in Google Applications for Education. While there are a few administrative tools that could help (better provisioning, teacher role, etc) and adding blogger the greatest gains would come from multimedia, animation, etc. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help support this move.

  10. Mrs. Burt,
My EDM310 class was recently introduced to Aviary. We have also been using Google, iGoogle, Google Docs, Google Presentations, and so much more. I am excited to hear that Aviary is putting its features to good use by connecting with Google for educational purposes.
