Google for Education Leaders Series: Indonesia 2023

It was a privilege to listen to educators from Indonesia, including the Minister of Education and the Secretary General of Education, share their vision and progress to bring profound learning opportunities to the millions of young people they serve in the schooling system. While listening to them speak and following their slides, I reflected that if I closed my eyes I could be back in NZ hearing a success story being presented about the implementation of the front half of the 2007 NZC. While the context is very different, these outcomes have been achieved through investing in a common purpose and empowering educators at all levels to leverage their passion and expertise to improve outcomes for their young people.

The case studies presented by classroom teachers and the school visit to  Al-Haraki Islamic School, Depok demonstrated the positive impact this leadership is enabling.

International speakers from Taiwan and Japan shared innovative solutions to the common challenge of modernising our education systems in culturally located contexts.

And Google's own Shantanu Sinha inspired with his keynote that shared his own context of innovation while acknowledging that "Great education starts with great teachers".

A special thank you from me to the tireless efforts of the two interpreters who kept me up to speed with all that was going on, and managed to translate my ramblings for the audience.
